SEPT 14, 2008 - Toronto, Canada
Upon my return from St. Paul via Chicago via Buffalo flight departure 6 AM Centtral and arrival 12:45 PM EST, I was back at work for 3:20 PM with less than 7 hours of sleep in the 4 days period. Howver I had a blast and wouldn’t have done it any other way.
(yeah you’re thinking “waaah, waaah, but I took a 22 hour bus ride through Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa to get to Minnesota, so have a little tenderness)
BUT - as if the 2 year U.S. Presidential election cycle wasn’t enough, not to mention the many neglected eMag posts to catch up on, the first Sunday morning, Sept 7/08, upon my return saw the announcement by Prime Minister Stephen Harper that there is to be a Canadian Federal Election for Tues. October 14.
The rest of this week will see the final wrapup of just the very very tip of the iceberg of the notable events and photographs and video and words from the DNC and RNC - and then we balance the U.S. and Canadian Election trails - and of course, all the other newworthy items that continue to, umm, plague us at this point.
I have to say one thing - it’s amazing that we can have an election in a 5 week period with just as dynamic and intelligent candidates to make thier case to the voting public, and yet it still tkaes the U.S. almost 2 years and close to a BILLION DOLLARS in advertising, fundraising, travel, propaganda, payoffs, soft money, staffers, etc. to make theirs. That should be a key right there.
So please stay tuned for planned interviews with Canadian and U.S. poltical figures. We tentatively have either Ralph Nader or Matt Gonzalez joining us for a bit amid their crazy schedules, we have St. Catharines Conservative Party of Canada MP Rick Dykstra slated, as well as the incumbent he unseated by less than 300 votes in the last race - Liberal Party of Canada Candidate Walt Lastewka. And the local Green Party and New Democratic Party Candidates, too.
We’ll also be hearing from other various party luminaries and if you want a clues as to ‘whom’, have a look at our ‘Political Parties’ Links page…
We also would like to encourage you to consider submitting your own missives, opinions, interviews, reports, videos, photographs, ramblings, et. al. whether is be from the campaign trail or the unemployment line. Your political inclination is of no consequence to us, we want to enourage all voices, and that’s a promise.

Not bad for a little “blog” (ahem, eMagazine) that is barely 12 weeks old.

RALPH NADER RALLIES AT DNC / RNC: Nader For President has announced 2 “Super-Rallies“ (like the highly successful ones we saw in 2000 emceed by everyone from Tim Robbins to Phil Donahue to Micheal Moore - before Moore threw him under the bus, of course) at BOTH the DNC and RNC convention weeks, as well as many other events encouraging public participation. CODE PINK is planning a series of events. We’ve been in touch and will be interviewing co-founder Medea Benjamin, whom we met while staying with Kucinich delegates in the Boston DNC, 2004. We’ll also be attending some of their planned events too, to give you a picture of some of the actions! (CHECK-see photos and vid!)
COME UP TO DENVER: “Laura Kriho, a Chicago native living in Colorado, is a spokesperson for the “Come Up to Denver” campaign. “I hope that activists around the country respond to the song and come up to Denver in August,” says Kriho. “As in 1968, we need massive numbers of participants to make an impact.”
This is in response to the recent Crosby, Stills, and Nash tour that took them through Denver, where they changed the lyrics and song title of “Chicago” , calling on, as Kriho says, for activists to come and make their voices heard. ComeUpToDenver.Org has many events planned and the site is a great resource for anyone on their way - from events (ie: Rage Against the Machine and Wayne Kramer of the MC5 are playing a free gig). CUTD has also set up an amazing set of links for those who want to take advantage of finding all the events and resources available to them.
INTERVIEW WITH CONSTITUTION PARTY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE CHUCK BALDWIN: We interviewed Pastor Chuck Baldwin on his candidacy, his support of Ron Paul, how he wants to eliminate the Fed and the IRS, the USAPatriot Act, NAFTA, have serious hearings into 9/11, and how “New World Order would come crashing down” under a Baldwin Presidency.
A very interesting interview and we’ll have all 28 minutes posted in 3 parts on Monday Aug 18! We also discussed the difference b/w the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party, Baldwin’s work with Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority and the Reagan/Bush ticket in FLA, Abortion, Immigration, and the need to end the Iraq War immediately.
