Iraq War Vets Plan Action to “Force the Issue”, Demand Face Time at Final Prez Debate
admin @ October 12, 2008 # One Comment
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y – Members and supporters of Iraqi Vets Against the War (IVAW) are planning to crash the third and final Presidential debate on Oct. 15 at Hofstra University if they are not permitted to address a question to both Sen.John McCain and Sen.Barack Obama.
Debate moderator, Bob Schieffer (CBS), has been sent a letter from event coordinator and IVAW member Matthias Chiroux. “I’m writing you today as a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War to make clear the details of a demonstration we will be leading Oct. 15th at Hofstra University prior to the final presidential debate and what our demands are and will be.”
The demands are simple. Chiroux continues, “We in IVAW demand that two of our members, myself and Kristofer Goldsmith, be permitted entry to the debate and be allowed to ask each candidate one question”
If the requests are not granted, and the IVAW fail to hear from campaign and debate coordinators by 7 pm EDT, IVAW members say that they are “are willing to risk arrest by entering the debate to have their voices heard by the candidates”

EYEWITNESS Account; RNC Day 4, Police Block St.Paul Bridges
admin @ September 23, 2008 # 2 Comments
My brother and I live in Minneapolis, very close to St.Paul, -within a 10
minute drive to the RNC (Xcel Energy Center, downtown St.Paul). On day four
of the RNC, we went down to once again witness and video the grand old
circus, -kept safe by a massive police state. Our aim was to post up the
news and events that we saw to our Kucinich forum friends at the RNC. This
is the news from that day as it looked to us.

Op Ed Guest Presidential Candidate, David Jon Sponheim, “On the Destiny of US Involvement in Iraq”

Unlike the plan to build a tri-state government in Iraq, I don’t want to force the Iraqi government to adopt any government devised by the U.S.. That can only lead to more hostility and sectarian violence. Separating people that once lived side by side in harmony makes no sense. We all have seen what the break up of Yugoslavia led to. That pattern is not the pathway to peace. It is only a new path to War.
I would offer the Iraqis a simple solution to their deeply troubled Nation. I propose that we assist the Iraqi’s in building Weapons Free Safe Zones where they can prosper in Renewable Energy Villages far away from any threat of Terror.

Fun Look Back to May 2007!: National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive
Thought some of you might enjoy a peek at this interesting “Presidential Directive” from May 2007. There is a lot of reading b/w the lines here, but it is especially interresting considering it was slipped by without much fanfare on the White House Official Website.
There are some fun little quotes to share, for example : “(c) “Continuity of Government,” or “COG,” means a coordinated effort within the Federal Government’s executive branch to ensure that National Essential Functions continue to be performed during a Catastrophic Emergency;” Read on!
Curious, isn’t it. Have fun! We look forward to responses

BATON-BASHED IN DENVER! IS THIS REALLY WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE?!

There are characteristics essential to being a member of the peace and social justice organization, CODEPINK. Chief among them is compassion. One can hardly dedicate one’s life to improving the lives of others if there isn’t an abiding drive to help those in need. Thus, it was no surprise to those who know her when 24 year old CODEPINK member, Alicia Forrest, in search of the truth, used her camera to document the arrest of a young man swarmed and overpowered by Denver sheriffs during a demonstration in Denver.

Editorial/Action: Another Way To (Not) Approach ‘08

A large planned protest gives Homeland Security and local law enforcement a chance to test out all their crowd control gear. They really need a way to justify all the money that has been spent on crowd control when there were no unruly crowds to control. Protesting the convention is like a battered wife saying, “I’m going to confront him and tell him not to hit me any more. I have rights,” instead of going to a shelter and getting away from the batterer. It’s asking for more brutality.
They want a repeat of old convention protests with much brutality and a lot of press coverage, and they’ll get it. And spend the next few years in court trying to get compensation for injuries and false arrest for the ones who aren’t killed. So sad. Such brave young people with such creative minds and they aren’t open to doing things differently. They have all the right ideas about democracy, but they are still thinking in terms of violent revolution.

Preview: Segment of 8 Part Interview w. Robert Young Pelton
admin @ July 18, 2008 # No Comment Yet
The following interview w/ Robert Young Pelton was conducted for a radio program and for 2 European print magazines, both now defunct. However the information and clarity that Pelton offers during the course of the interview clarifies his position and reasons for writing Licensed to Kill:Hired Guns In The War On Terror.
Speaking candidly about Blackwater, Eric Prince, Sandline, Tim Spicer, media manipulation, marketing, and a wide array of subjects, we see why Pelton’s writing is often misinterpreted despite his own clarity. Many come to his work with their own preconcieved notions and try to superimpose their politics on his frank and honest reportage.
As once written in a brief for a 2002 interview with Salon.com,”Robert Young Pelton, author of “The World’s Most Dangerous Places,” says the U.S. military has killed “thousands and thousands” of people in Afghanistan, al-Qaida is a myth and the WTC was brought down by a “Mickey Mouse” outfit.”
Pelton would know however. He has been there.
