Iraq War Vets Plan Action to “Force the Issue”, Demand Face Time at Final Prez Debate

admin @ October 12, 2008 # One Comment

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y – Members and supporters of Iraqi Vets Against the War (IVAW) are planning to crash the third and final Presidential debate on Oct. 15 at Hofstra University if they are not permitted to address a question to both Sen.John McCain and Sen.Barack Obama.

Debate moderator, Bob Schieffer (CBS), has been sent a letter from event coordinator and IVAW member Matthias Chiroux. “I’m writing you today as a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War to make clear the details of a demonstration we will be leading Oct. 15th at Hofstra University prior to the final presidential debate and what our demands are and will be.”

The demands are simple. Chiroux continues, “We in IVAW demand that two of our members, myself and Kristofer Goldsmith, be permitted entry to the debate and be allowed to ask each candidate one question”

If the requests are not granted, and the IVAW fail to hear from campaign and debate coordinators by 7 pm EDT, IVAW members say that they are “are willing to risk arrest by entering the debate to have their voices heard by the candidates”

Editorial:Should Henry “The Fox” Paulson Guard The Henhouse?

admin @ October 10, 2008 # No Comment Yet

On Tuesday, October 7, a group of CODEPINK pranksters pranced in front of the New York Stock Exchange. One, wearing an oversized papier maché head of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, grabbed at the purses of the “chickens.” “Give me your money; give me your money,” he cried. “You might need a new house, but my buddies and I need new yachts.” Passersby, reading the sign “Henry ‘The Fox’ Paulson’ in the People’s Henhouse,” heartily agreed.

Congress thought otherwise, entrusting Paulson—the former CEO of Goldman Sachs–with $700 billion of the people’s money. On October 3, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, smiling ear to ear, congratulated Congress for passing a bill that gave Secretary Paulson unprecedented control over our nation’s economic future. An hour later, President Bush and Secretary Paulson appeared on the steps of the Treasury Department signing the bill.

Editorial: VoteStrike - The Corporate Coup of America

admin @ October 8, 2008 # No Comment Yet

OP ED Piece - I’ve been writing for some time now about of h the overthrow of the United States government by lobbyist and special interest groups. We have documented this coup extensively at VoteStrike.com the most recent example of this being the Paulson bail-outs.

My congressman’s web site had a poll showing that 97.3%is constituents were opposed to the bailout. He totally ignored that and voted “Yes”. Who controls Washington? Not us.

Scoop: Cindy Sheehan Reveals Plan for New Political Party, Reflects on Race Against Pelosi

admin @ October 7, 2008 # 2 Comments

Anti War activist and challenger for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Congressional Seat (CD 8, California), Cindy Sheehan has indicated her intention to launch a National political party after the U.S. Election of Nov. 4

Inspired in part by Mark Twain’s involvement in The American Anti Imperialst League (also chaired by Andrew Carnegie and former President Grover Cleveland, fyi) in reaction to the annexation of the Phillippines by the United States in the late 19th Century, Sheehan said that the party will have a progressive platform and that after Nov. 4, “no matter what happens, we need to consolidate the energy against Imperialism and work on building another party movement.”

How Third Parties Will Navigate Around Denied Access

admin @ September 26, 2008 # No Comment Yet

The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) requires 15% in at least five national polls to participate in the debates and the current, two-party candidates have acquiesced to the thresholds created by the CPD. Garnering 15% in five national polls is a high bar but not unachievable IF there were actually five national polling firms that fairly included third party and independent candidates.

My brother and I live in Minneapolis, very close to St.Paul, -within a 10
minute drive to the RNC (Xcel Energy Center, downtown St.Paul). On day four
of the RNC, we went down to once again witness and video the grand old
circus, -kept safe by a massive police state. Our aim was to post up the
news and events that we saw to our Kucinich forum friends at the RNC. This
is the news from that day as it looked to us.

Op Ed Guest Presidential Candidate, David Jon Sponheim, “On the Destiny of US Involvement in Iraq”

admin @ September 22, 2008 # No Comment Yet

Unlike the plan to build a tri-state government in Iraq, I don’t want to force the Iraqi government to adopt any government devised by the U.S.. That can only lead to more hostility and sectarian violence. Separating people that once lived side by side in harmony makes no sense. We all have seen what the break up of Yugoslavia led to. That pattern is not the pathway to peace. It is only a new path to War.

I would offer the Iraqis a simple solution to their deeply troubled Nation. I propose that we assist the Iraqi’s in building Weapons Free Safe Zones where they can prosper in Renewable Energy Villages far away from any threat of Terror.
