Editorial Reponse (re:Whole Foods):”Fighting Fire with Fire”

admin @ August 29, 2009 # One Comment

After writing The Unethical Boycott of Whole Foods Inc., I received a lot of feedback. In this article I seek to clear up any confusion I have caused and respond to some of the critiques. In this way I seek to get to the bottom of my points and, if at all possible, give credit to my critics who I feel ask important and fundamental questions regarding the nature, not just of my article, but of the issue at hand. I also, admittedly, seek to verbally abuse the boycotters out of their idiotic stupor. I can only hope they are not so terrified by privatized healthcare that they will miss my points. Oh, and a final carrot before the steak, I feel that public healthcare system would be a huge step forward for the United States – don’t confuse my critique of your mass-hysteria with delusion.

Editorial - Whiteous Indignation

admin @ July 28, 2009 # No Comment Yet

“How cute!” my adults would say when they passed a black baby or a small black child. They’d grin approvingly at the baby and smile their acceptance at the baby’s mom. Sometimes they’d extend a hand to brush the baby’s cheek to prove their gentility. And then they’d walk a bit further, lean into each other and snark the zinger that angered me then and now, “yeah, they’re cute now but wait till they get older.” There it was. There it is. The not so subtle prejudice I witnessed in my family that millions of impressionable children witnessed in theirs…

Editorial - Specter Paints Pennsylvania Senate Map Blue

admin @ April 28, 2009 # No Comment Yet

So part of the reason Senator Specter made the switch to join the Democrats is so that he would not lose his place on the ballot as senatorial candidate of the Republican Party in 2010. The general consensus is that Specter will not have any serious Democratic primary opponents that could unseat him next year. I understand Senator Specter wants to win another term but I did not expect him to switch parties to do so.

Until at least the midterm elections next year, two Democratic senators will represent my home state.

This is a first in my lifetime.

Department of Peace Conference: a Sliver of a Peek

admin @ April 6, 2009 # One Comment

On March 20-23, the third meeting of the Campaign to Establish a Cabinet Level Dept of Peace met at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City, Arlington VA. The location itself feels paradoxical - conference goers meet in this location surrounded by the offices of some of the biggest organizations that solely exist to profit from war and unrest; KBR (Haliburton), Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and any number of offices of lobbyists that are situated a stone’s throw across the Potomac from the legislative core of the United States.

Op/Analysis - The Most Regressive Tax of All

admin @ February 15, 2009 # No Comment Yet

When you see a homeless veteran rolling a cigarette to help cope with the constant stress of living on the streets and ward off the hunger pangs a bit, do you become angry that they are smoking or do you give them some money for food or tobacco? Either way, after April 1st, you might be well advised to cross the street and avoid them altogether, as they will not be able to afford to buy rolling tobacco any more and studies have shown that smokers who are deprived of tobacco are apt to become irritable or even violent.
