Editorial: THE “F” BOMB- Has It Finally Arrived?

admin @ May 16, 2009 # No Comment Yet

It can take years to break through in popular culture. Just ask any non-Idolesque singer. Ask any musician, actor, artist etc. Getting the word out there can be a long and arduous task and raw talent or appeal is not always a deciding factor. Timing is everything we are told, being in the right place at the right time. That of course implies luck as a factor, or “getting your big break” as some put it.

Others will say that you make your own breaks.
I’m sure it’s a combination of everything. Even heathens like myself like to imagine that every once in a while the “forces” align and something comes of it. Of course we heathens also like to believe that outside of science, there are no forces, and that the studies of alignment and coincidence are simply things people do to pass the time and to make themselves look much cleverer than they actually are.

Ashlee Simpson Saves America

admin @ February 3, 2009 # No Comment Yet

To me her words will always represent the Obama presidency. We all witnessed the historic day, the millions who gathered in Washington, D.C. and around the world. We saw their faces, laughing, crying, cheering. We heard the speech of the great orator and new president as he set America on
a path to repair and to be great again. Notice that Mr. Obama never ends his speeches with God bless America, but rather, God bless the United States of America. No more red and blue states, just united states, a United States worthy of God’s blessing. A United States that will again be loved by
world, a place not so hasty in making fun of Ashlee’s big sister. OK he didn’t say that last part, but we know that’s what he meant.

from the official Hicks website: “The Late Show with David Letterman has scheduled a telecast of the never-aired October 1, 1993 Bill Hicks appearance. The show was pre-taped Jan. 26th (with Bill’s mom as a guest) and will air Friday, January 30th on your local CBS affiliate. We’d like to acknowledge and thank Bill’s many fans and everyone who has had a hand in keeping Bill’s comedy and philosophy alive. Let’s hear the names you have milling around in the back of your head - or candidates you’d like to see - or trial balloons you’d like to float - or solid “yes I am considerings…”, whether it’s Ron Paul, former NM Gov Gary Johnson, former Gov Jesse Ventura, Loretta Null, Steve Kubby, Gov Blagojevich (lol), Newt Gingrich, Cindy Sheehan, and an a wide array of other potentialities…Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin…et al.

It should make for an interesting pre ‘year - end - list - barrage’ of “best - of - nothings” that are the stock - in - trade of every publication. (other than this spec we promise we won’t do one)

We’ll come back to THIS topid on Dec 22 and have a gander.

Revisiting Some of the Best Things TV *Can* Offer (expanded post soon)

Revisiting Some of the Best Things TV *Can* Offer

There has always been some debate as to when and why television failed us in the face of it’s fantastic potential. Considering Youtube.com didn’t even register on the radar less that 4 years ago, it’s amazing to think in context that radio wasn’t even a major presence until the mind 1920’s - let alone that computers in the average home wasn’t a reality until the mid 1990’s.

I’ll expand on ALL of this more later but want to do a quickie - post ( until I can attend to this again when time allows), but in the meantime please enjoy a great easonal special offered by presenter-journalist Louis Theroux of the BBC.

Will Marketing My Marijuana Med - Grow Charges Make Me Money?

Will Marketing My Marijuana Grow Charges Make Me Money?

~ Matt Mernagh

Everyone loves good courtroom drama.

Combining this with my marijuana grow-op bust which also brings big media headlines an opportunity to market my upcoming (Summer 2009) blockbuster medical marijuana constitutional challenge appears to be
ganja golden.

Charismatic med-cannabis infused alt-weekly journalist (cannabis / war resisters beat) with a Gen X criminal defense lawyer angling to create a name with an incredibly articulate constitutional challenge is hot copy.

Especially in the middle of the dog days of July.

Sidewalks crammed with those big media tents, with newscasters doing mid day noon hour courtroom commentary, and friends pitching in words of wisdom for the throng of print journalist seeking quotes would be awesome.

Media Editorial: Why Do People Pay so Much Attention to the ‘Casters?

admin @ September 24, 2008 # No Comment Yet

Why do people pay so much attention to the ‘Casters?
I notice many people supporting some ideal far across the web, from Youtube to random boards. Ron Paul supporters are a tad less guilty of it, but it still dumbfounds me how they approach what they believe in. Somehow a mass majority of these supporters of [...]

“SMUG”

admin @ July 3, 2008 # One Comment

What is smug? How do so few public figures display it? How does one achieve it? Perhaps for many smug is a defense mechanism hiding insecurity, but that can be said for many things. People are always over compensating with something to disguise the lack of something else. So when you look for smug, make sure it’s the real thing. The real Trebek/Conrad/Oprah/Pope smug. Am I being smug in the writing of this article? Maybe a little. Just remember, you have to fight smug with smug.
